Explore your layout in 3D

Switch from the 2D plan to an interactive 3D view to see light on the floor and walls as a heatmap or a realistic rendering.

The 3D view turns a grid of numbers into something you can feel: the Heatmap mode is the quickest way to communicate coverage to a client, while Rendering helps you picture glare and beam spread before anything is installed.

  1. Switch to 3D

Use the 2D / 3D toggle at the top-right of the canvas and click 3D. OpenLumen builds an interactive scene from your areas, fixtures, and calculation results. (The 3D view is unavailable for very large layouts — over 25,000 sq ft, about 2,300 m², of total area — to keep it responsive.)

  2. Choose a view mode

Switch between the two 3D view modes next to the 2D/3D toggle:

    • Heatmap — projects your illuminance results onto the floor and walls as a color gradient, so you can spot bright and dark zones at a glance.
    • Rendering — a more realistic look with ambient light, glowing fixture lenses, and additive beam effects to help you visualize the space.

(The flat Points option from 2D isn't shown in 3D; if you were in Points mode it switches to Heatmap.)

  3. Navigate the scene

Move around with familiar orbit controls:

    • Rotate — left-click and drag to orbit around the layout.
    • Zoom — scroll the mouse wheel (or pinch on a trackpad).
    • Pan — right-click and drag, or hold Shift while dragging.

The camera is kept above the ground plane so you always look down onto the design.
