Place fixtures from the library
Pick a luminaire from the IES library and drop it onto your layout, then position and rotate it precisely.

Adding fixtures is the heart of every layout. OpenLumen treats fixtures as instances of an IES file from your library, so anything you change about the IES (lumens, candela curve, etc.) is reflected in every place it's used.
Open the Luminaires panel
In the right-hand panel of the Layout Designer, switch to the Luminaires tab. This is where you'll add fixture types from your library to the layout.
Pick an IES file
Click Add luminaire and search the library. You can search by manufacturer, model, lumens, or any tag you've applied. Use the Verified / Official filter if you want to limit yourself to manufacturer-validated files.
Once you confirm a fixture, it shows up as a swatch in the Luminaires panel — ready to be placed.
Place fixtures on the canvas
With a fixture type selected, click anywhere on the canvas to drop one. Click again to drop another. Press Esc when you're done placing.
To move a fixture, switch back to the arrow tool in the toolbar, then click and drag. Hold Shift while dragging to constrain to horizontal / vertical moves.
Rotate, copy, and array
Select a fixture and use the Settings tab on the right to type an exact rotation, mounting height, or aiming angle. To duplicate a fixture, press Ctrl/Cmd + D, or use Plan → Array to lay out a regular grid of identical fixtures over a calculation area.
