Create a new layout
Start a fresh layout from scratch in the Layout Designer and give it a name you'll recognise later.

In OpenLumen, every photometric design starts as a *layout*: a 2D plan with calculation areas, fixtures, and notes. This how-to walks you through creating a brand-new one and giving it a home.
Open the Layout Designer
Click the Layout button in the top navigation. If this is your first time, OpenLumen opens an empty workspace titled "Untitled Layout" with a "Local only" badge — that means it is saved in your browser but has not been pushed to your account yet.
Rename the layout
Click the name "Untitled Layout" at the top-left of the canvas to rename your layout. A clear name makes it easier to find later in the My Layouts list and is also the title used when you share publicly.
Decide where to start
You can either import a floor plan (DWG, DXF, PDF, or an image) using the File menu, or jump straight to drawing areas and placing fixtures on a blank canvas. Importing a plan gives you accurate scale and helps you snap fixtures to real walls.
Save it to your account
Once you're ready to keep your work, sign in (or create an account) and use File → Save. The "Local only" badge disappears and your layout will show up in the My Layouts page from any device you log in on.
