Upload an IES file

Add a new luminaire to your library by uploading its IES photometric file.

4 steps · 2 min read

Every fixture in OpenLumen is backed by an IES file. Uploading a new one takes about a minute and immediately makes the fixture available across the photometric tools.

  1. Open the Library

Click Library in the top navigation. You'll see the public Luminaires Library plus your own private files (once you're signed in).

  2. Click "Upload IES"

Use the Upload IES button in the top-right of the library. You can drag-and-drop a .ies file onto the upload area or click to pick one with your file browser. OpenLumen accepts standard LM-63-1995, LM-63-2002, and LM-63-2019 files.

  3. Choose categories and visibility

Pick at least one category (you can choose up to five) so the file can be found via the filter sidebar. If you have brand-admin permissions you can also tag the file as Official for a manufacturer.

For community uploads, the file is public and other users can find and use it. Duplicate files are detected by content hash — if your IES already exists in the library, you'll be added as a contributor instead of creating a duplicate.

  4. Confirm and review

After upload, OpenLumen parses the file and pulls out the manufacturer, catalog number, total lumens, watts, and dimensions automatically. You'll land on the new luminaire's detail page where you can verify those values, add a description, and start using the fixture in your layouts.
